A Winter Morning (Roureda de les Tàpies, Catalonia)
I took this photo last winter, on a cold morning. The ground was completely frozen; each time I moved, I could hear the sharp crack of the leaves under my feet. I did not plan on stopping, but when I saw the rising sun behind the oaks, I could not resist.
These century-old oaks are 2–3 meters in circumference and 20 meters high. They are unique in the zone because, in the past century, the commercial use of wood has increased the establishment of pine trees in the surroundings.
You can find this small wood near “Les Tàpies,” an old farm belonging to Calders, a province of Barcelona in Catalonia.
