Gorg del Molí dels Murris (Cogolls, Catalonia)
This beautiful waterfall is located on Cogolls Creek, not far from Les Planes d’Hostoles, a peaceful village in the Girona province in Catalonia. The place is amazing; the water has nice blue tones and there is a big river pool perfect for swimming in the summer.
The unique appearance of this waterfall and other parts of the creek is due to numerous normal faults that sink or raise blocks of rock and control the existence of numerous underground water springs that contain an abundant amount of dissolved calcium bicarbonate. This calcium is responsible of slowly petrifying the plants in contact with the water, creating these beautiful travertine stone formations.
